Physical wellness as defined by the Global Wellness Institute includes nourishing a healthy body through exercise, nutrition, sleep. Children learn from movement and physical activity. Movement is a crucial part of healthy brain development in young children which can be said for babies, infants, and children. The first years of life are vital in the development of movement skills and an understanding of the world. A child’s early experiences of movement and physical activity can help them develop the skills, attitudes, and confidence to be active throughout their life. If you think about it, movement plays a role in the very early days of human life. For expectant parents, feeling movement is the first tangible sign of a new life.

Movement and exercise can of course, provide us with feelings of joy and happiness. Many studies have found that exercise will support children’s mental health and give them overall feelings of happiness and positivity. It has also been found that children who participate in daily physical activity have a significantly reduced risk for various diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes, obesity, depression, cancer, and mental illness.

At Junior Genius Global, we advise parents and caregivers to provide opportunities for physical activity every day. There are simple ways to introduce daily exercise, such as taking a walk, practising yoga, going for a swim or a trip to a local playpark.

Junior Genius Global value the importance of yoga in the formative years to get children moving joyfully and to boost a healthy lifestyle. Yoga has been shown to have a positive impact on children’s wellbeing by

  • Reduces anxiety and boosts confidence and self-esteem.
  • It helps children to be aware of their body in space and time, which supports spatial awareness.
  • It enhances children's memory and concentration.
  • It develops their strength, balance, and flexibility.
